Self-concept is the perception one has of themselves, both in negative and positive attributes, which they believe make them who they are. I can define myself as self-confident, capable of responding to and solving conflicts, receptive to feedback, having great work ethics, managing relationships, listening ability, having work etiquette, possess a positive attitude, flexible and open to change, and funny or funny lighthearted. Self-confidence is important through how one carries themselves, being aware of who you are, and believing in yourself to handle things that come your way. The capability to handle and solve conflicts is a skill that helps in positively responding to hurdles thrown your way by people who may or may not have an ulterior motive. The ability to respond in good faith that will not escalate the fight is a skill that many fail to possess. Positive or negative feedback may contain unsolicited advice and opinion which may be unwelcome to the receptor. Thus, the ability to accept both constructive and negative criticism is a vital skill to have. Every workplace has its own rules and regulations, and every individual should be fluid enough to accept those values and work hard towards accomplishing the mission of the said workplace.

A positive attitude towards life helps one learn how to take things lightly, especially the difficulties experienced from time to time, with a great outlook, in hoping the best will come. It is said that change is the only constant thing in life, and since change is inevitable, one should be ready for the changes that may be imposed on them or that take place in our day-to-day lives. Being funny or lighthearted means that takes things lightly, even when subjected to difficult situations. Seeing the good side of things and being a happy and funny person who impacts others’ joy is an essential quality to possess. All these characteristics make me unique in being considered a contestant and participant in the Remarkable race.

Gender is the definition given to the two sexes in the world, in which someone is either a male or female. My understanding of the gender pathway is a term used to distinguish a man from a woman through biological, social, or behavioral differences. The male gender is often considered superior to the female gender, leading to many women being overlooked in different places, especially in a work setting (Okoro et al., 2017). Thus, I have learned to be self-confident in that I am aware of my strengths and weaknesses, and I can attest that some of my skills, experiences and educational level are higher than that of my male counterparts. Being aware of myself has to be of great help in knowing what kind of treatment to expect and what I should not condone. Self-confidence is a quality in me that will be essential when participating in the remarkable race since I can handle any challenge that comes my way, even those viewed as male roles.

Culture can be defined as the customs, ideas, and social behavior portrayed by different people globally. I can define the cultural pathway as the customs that different communities practice as their belief and way of life. People come from different cultural backgrounds and have certain beliefs and practices that another community may not practice. The customs are often passed from one generation to another, from how people behave during certain times, the superior being they worship, to how they dress and eat (Okoro et al., 2017). The practices are embedded in each person from birth to being adults, and the cycle continues. In my community, we believe that women are peacemakers, and they should always remain calm even when under pressure to react to a conflict. From a young age, my mother and grandmother always insisted on a woman remaining calm even in the face of adversity, a character trait that has helped me respond to and solve conflict well. I have always been a mediator between many people close to me since peacemaking has been embedded in me. Thus, solving conflicts will come in handy since conflicts often arise when people are under pressure. With the physical challenges we will tackle, people are bound to react to each other when the pressure is applied. Therefore, my ability to solve conflict will be used.

The reflected appraisal is a psychological word used to describe how a person views themselves from the evaluation and words of other people. Most people’s perception of themselves has been impacted by the people around them, in that they take at heart what people say or think about them. This means that it is very important for some people to seek the opinions of others about themselves (Okoro et al., 2017). My positive attitude shows well in the reflected appraisal pathway. When one is aware of themselves, it isn’t easy to engage external factors in defining who one is. Some people may offer constructive criticism, while others may look to downgrade one’s self-esteem. Thus, due to different upbrings, some people may look down on others, and possessing a positive attitude ensures that they cannot play with your emotions. Thus, a positive attitude is one of the attributes that makes me eligible to participate in the Remarkable Race.

The social comparison involves one evaluating their abilities, attitudes, and traits against those of others. Today, most parents often compare their children to other people’s children or those of their friends. The children then adopt the habit as they grow up, eliciting feelings of jealousy when they think someone is better than them. The child might also perceive themselves as never good enough compared to others (Okoro et al., 2017). I have always been able to manage relationships with different people in different upbringing. The ability to get along with all kinds of people has been channeled from my self-awareness in that people can have different thoughts or opinions from yours. Thus, the characteristic will be a perfect ability due to the different participants I shall encounter in the Remarkable Race.
