Guidelines for Annotating Qualitative Research Articles
Throughout this course we will read and analyze qualitative and other empirical research articles. To assist you in this process, you are to answer the following questions in a written summary of each of the five qualitative research articles.
Format of the Annotated Bibliography of Qualitative Articles
1. Citation in APA style
2. What is the intent/purpose of the research? What is(are) the author(s) trying to do? What are the stated/implicit objectives and questions the author(s) is(are) addressing?
3. What are the key theories, themes, terms, constructs and/or measures used in this study?
4. What is the qualitative research design? How has(have) the author(s) implemented it? What specific research tactics did the author(s) use?
5. How do the author(s) deal with the issues of fidelity and trustworthiness?
6. What are the results of the study? Does the data collected fit the author’s intentions (question 2) and research design (questions 4 & 5)?
7. Are there alternative explanations for the data observed and the research design utilized? What are these alternative explanations that are consistent with the data presented?
8. How has this article contributed to the literature? What new knowledge has it produced? What new questions should be pursued to continue this line of research?
