Project Description:
Mr. and Mrs. Ramon Joven, residents of Bronx / Westchester Area, decided that with their growing family, they need a variety of technology devices/resources to meet the educational and personal needs of the family members. The couple have three (3) children — one in middle-school, one in high-school and the eldest will go to college in Florida by Winter 2021.

The family currently owns a desktop computer which they bought in 2005. They do not have any other technology like laptop, tablet or smartphones for themselves nor for any of their children. Mr. and Mrs. Joven approached your team to help them decide on the varied types of technology devices/ resources the family, the couple and each of their children should own. Below are some guiding questions for you to approach the case and provide the best technology solutions for the family as a whole and for each member of the family.

What type of technology device / product would the father, mother and each of the children own? Should each family member get a Smartphone? What type of smartphone should each one have (father, mother, the child going to college, the child in high school and the child in middle school)?
Would you recommend a tablet or tablets for each member of the family or a few members of the family? Who should have the tablet(s)? Why?
Should the family buy a new desktop computer for family use? What type would you recommend? Or do you think a laptop is better or a tablet? Or maybe a 3-in-1 type of technology device? How many should the family buy and who among them should have the device(s) you are recommending?
Who among the different types of Service Providers will they select for some or all of the technology devices / products?

If you are not clear with the project instructions, consult with your instructor. They should be able to explain/clarify the project and at the same time provide you with more guiding questions. Every group project should have a different outcome. It can NEVER be the same.

FAMILY BUDGET:
Minimum: $3,500
Maximum: 5% more of the minimum budget

Research Logistics:
Approach the research by ensuring that you compare and contrast three (3) types of the devices recommended in each category.
For example, if you think the family should each have a smartphone, you will compare three (3) different types/brands of smartphones. Should each member have exactly the same type / specs?
If the family needs a tablet or two, compare and contact three (3) different types/brands of tablets. Should they buy the same type and brand or different ones?
If the family needs a desktop computer, compare and contrast three (3) different types of desktop computers.
Lastly, compare and contrast three (3) different types of Internet Service Providers (ISP)
1 2 3

When comparing and contrasting look into:
Benefits of each type of computer, laptop, tablet, smartphone and service provider
Disadvantages/risks of each type of computer, laptop, tablet, smartphone and service provider
The specifications of each computer, laptop, tablet, smartphone and service provider
The Operating System and Applications Software in each of the devices
The financial cost of the each type of computer, laptop, tablet, smartphone and service provider.
Other important factors that are deemed critical to the evaluation and decision-making
Use MS Excel to present the facts you will compare and contrast.

NOTE: Students will not look into the “free phone options” as provided by some Service Providers.

Deliverables: [Three (3) deliverables]:

A Word Document (Group Report)
Write a comparative report on each of technology devices used in the research project. In other words, compare and contrast three (3) types of SMARTPHONE and justify the solution or selected smartphone. Compare and contract three (3) types of DESKTOP and justify the solution or selected DESKTOP for the family. Apply this same approach for the Tablet, Laptop and any other technology devices you are recommending
