This assignmentwill assess your understanding of the principles of network design and the ability to analyse, designand create a network infrastructure fully configured and tested which reflects understanding ofnetwork design and troubleshooting.ScenarioYou are working as a network engineer in an IT company. You have been assigned to design, implement a network infrastructure for a small company donow.co.uk. The company consist of 4departments (finance, engineers, sales and IT).The network consists of three Servers: web-dns, email- IoT, and common File Server as describedin the table below. All servers are shared between all users. The distribution of workstations, shownin table 1, describes the requirement of each department. The company has decided to allowmembers of staff to use the wireless network on their own wireless device such as smartphone toaccess the internet. DepartmentDevicesRequirementsFinance8 Computerscannot access any other departmentSales31 Computers & Printercannot access any other departmentEngineers21 Computers & printercannot access any other departmentIT3 computerscannot access any other departmentWireless DevicesShould be sufficient forstaff accesscannot access any department, need to bein a separate logical network but can accessserversdns-web/email &File server1-web-dns server1 email-IoT server1 common File ServersAccessible by all computersIoT devicesTo monitor temperature / thermostat cooling, and server room door. Table 1: workstation and server distribution and requirementsThe IT director emphasised on scalability and availability, hence you are being required to provide acomplete network infrastructure design and implementation. The company will be using privatenetwork IP address 192.168.44.0/24 within wired LAN, and 10.20.44.0/24 for the wireless network.TaskAnalyse the requirements given in above scenario evaluating suitable network models andcomponents to design a network infrastructure featuring scalability, availability and security.Based on your analysis and evaluation, you are to: Apply the required configuration for the selected components. Discuss, evaluate and apply Network monitoring tools/components, and Produce network test and documentation suitable for network maintenance. All relevant network configuration, network diagram and device configuration tables, networksimulation file must be included and attached as appendix.3 | 6 © 2019 Roehampton UniversityDeliverables Complete network diagram for the given scenario, including description and analysis. Appropriate subnet showing all required elements, based on given network addresses, arefulfilled. Create VLAN for each department based on given requirements, including sampleconfiguration. Justification of the use of network design model and components including anytechnologies/protocols used such as VTP, STP, DHCP etc.. Provide complete security precaution and configuration where applicable including Accesscontrol list to isolate each department internally. Complete testing documentation of all relevant devices such as web, email, DNS servers,(note: use of screenshots without description is not acceptable as answers)Word countDon’t exceed the word countYou need to state the word count at the end of their assignment. 10% over the stated word count ispermitted without penalty. If students go beyond this, then there is a penalty of 5 marks for every additional 10% beyond theword count with a maximum of a 15 mark penalty reduction. There is no specific penalty for submitting a piece which is below the word count, but please notethat shorter submissions are likely to attract poorer grades, particularly where they lack thenecessary depth of analysis. How do you calculate the word count? The word count includes the Abstract or Executive Summary and all in-text citations. The wordcount does not include the Bibliography and Appendices. Please note that Appendices should only include supplementary information, not informationcritical to your work.4 | 6 © 2019 Roehampton University Assessment criteria / Marking schemeAssessment CriteriaDescriptionIntroductionIntroduction6Introduction to the context and/or background to the topic, indicating the purpose of the report10Marks4The introduction includes some definitions of complex terminology or acronyms and indicatesideas in view of the conclusion of the report.Knowledge andunderstandingKnowledge and understanding6Demonstrate effective approach to study and research including explanation and discussionof subject concepts, exploring functional and non-functional requirements of the givenassignment10 Marks4Use relevant information paraphrased / interpreted from academic sources, summarise andmake sense of informationApplication andAnalysisApplying knowledge and analysis7Discussion, examination and analysis of different network components, exploring therelationship between different components15 Marks5Reasoning of device/components selection based on prior-knowledge, backed by evidence ofresearch from sound sources3Discussion and analysis of different network modelsEvaluation andjudgementEvaluation of different components and network model8The judgment in selecting components shows understanding of issues based on evaluatingand comparing different network components supported by literature15 Marks7Evaluation of different technologies and/or protocols such as VLANs, Trunking, Accesscontrol, DHCP etc.Design andImplementationNetwork implementation and design10A description of network diagram, summarising the network design, including implementationand configuration of all network components and protocol with evidence (sample networkconfiguration scripts).20 Marks6The plan accommodates the necessary devices and accounts for the unforeseeableconditions.4Evidence related to the work is carried out in designing. You work must be under 100MB.Assignment support: During the delivery of the module, you will have several opportunities to get formative feedback onyour assessment during tutorials. Although you will be guided throughout the module by your lecturer, you can get extra support for yourassignment, just make an appointment with the ACE team for any language, research and study skillsissues and/or talk, email the Computing ACE expert for any advice on how to approach yourassignment. REMEMBER: they are not here to give you the answers! Students will have access to formative feedback on each task set in workshops, thereby helping themto refine their approach to the summative tasks that have been set. However, please note that this feedback is limited to recommendations on improving your work.Lecturers will not confirm any grades or marks. The feedback can be one-to-one or in-group sessions. Finally, you will receive summative feedback within 20 working days of your final submission. Pleasenote that the summative feedback and the grades remain provisional until approval from the examboard.6 | 6 © 2019 Roehampton UniversityPlagiarism and Collusion Academic Integrity is a matter that is taken very seriously at the university and student shouldendeavour to enforce it to all their assignments. In other words, plagiarism, collusion (working andcopying from another student) and ghost writing will not be tolerated and will result in sanctions eg:capped resit, suspension and/or withdrawal. Correct referencing demonstrates your academic andprofessional skill. It also reflects your academic honesty and thus to some degree protects you fromcases of plagiarism. You must write your assignment in your own words to demonstrate your understanding of the subject. Material from external sources must be properly referenced and cited within the text using the Harvardreferencing system, You are required to follow the Roehampton Harvard referencing System. Please refer to Moodlefor the latest version of the Roehampton Harvard referencing System or ask the library. An accompanying list of references (on a separate page and in alphabetical order) must also beprovided as part of your work. Plagiarism: occurs when you present somebody else’s work as your own, whether that work is an idea, graphs, figure, illustration or a pure text. Be it available in web, textbooks, reports or otherwise. Wholesale use of text and diagrams from websites is considered as plagiarism when notacknowledged. Plagiarism will be dealt with firmly and can lead to serious consequences and disciplinary procedures. Collusion: occurs when copying another student’s report (Text, Figures, Illustration etc..) andsubmitting it as your own.Submission and Late submission Students must ensure that their work is satisfactory and fit for purpose, both academically and freefrom any plagiarism. Students must use an appropriate coversheet, which must include the subject, assignment title, student ID and date-time. Tutors, lecturers and module convenors do not have the authority to extend the submission deadlinesnor the exam time/date. In case of any mitigating circumstances, students should fill in the relevantmitigating circumstances form(s) available at —— Student Services —– The marking of the assignment will be capped at 40 if the assignment is submitted within first seven(7) days after the deadline, any submission late than 7 days will be ignored. The Submission File should be appropriate to the topic/title of the assignment and contain the StudentID, (Student ID-Assignment title) All coursework related material must be attached as an appendix in the final coursework/assignmentdocument, including any computer-generated document, software/ code, simulation file etc..
