Essay Prompt
Is our technological future terrifying or promising? Should we be worried about the world we’re creating? Or should we be optimistic about the future, given the potential benefits of technology? What are we gaining, or what are we losing? What are the pros, or what are the cons? You do not need to address all of these questions. These are just questions to help you think about the topic of technological advancement.
For this research paper, you are to take a position in favor of the future being bleak or terrifying, or (not both) of the future being promising and bright.
Here’s how you should approach this essay: choose a topic about technology that interests you—for example, you can choose from any of the topics we’ve been reading about (i.e. social media or automation), or choose your own—and then discuss three aspects about this topic that are terrifying and that we should be worried about, or that are promising and that we should be optimistic about.
So, for example, you can choose to write about A.I. as your main topic, and then in each body paragraph discuss a different aspect about A.I. that is terrifying and that we should be worried about, or that is promising and that we should be optimistic about. Again, choose one position or the other, not both.
