Approximately 800 words
, written in APA format. You will be comparing the two pieces written by the composers you used in the composer project. You must use the pieces provided. You need to find 3 comparisons and 3 contrasts. When looking for comparisons and contrasts, think about the elements: melody, harmony, rhythm, texture, timbre, dynamics, form, word-music relationship, and genre/style. Paragraph #4: Compare Specifically point out 3 significant similarities in the two pieces. Be sure to make your statement of the similarity and then add further explanation of the similarity. For example: “Although Sousa wrote a march and Handel wrote a hornpipe, both pieces were written for dancing. The Washington Post was a popular tune for dancing in the late 1800’s and the Hornpipe from the Water Music Suite was a popular tune for dancing in the early 1700’s.” or “Both pieces are homophonic. Leader of the Band, has a guitar accompaniment and Oh, Susanna has a banjo accompaniment.” Paragraph #5: Contrast Specifically point out 3 significant differences in the two pieces. Be sure to make your statement of the difference and then add further explanation of the difference. For example: “The meter is different in each piece. Washington Post is a march in duple meter and the Hornpipe is in triple meter. This gave the dancing a very different feel.” or “The purpose of the song is different. Leader of the Band is a song written to honor the singer’s father whereas Oh, Susanna is a nonsense song. Therefore, Leader of the Band is performed with sincerity and emotion while Oh Susanna is performed with a humorous attitude using a kazoo for a melodic interlude!”
Paragraph #6: Summary Review and make final comments!
