Consider the strategies you have learned about in this session for establishing new behavior (Miltenberger, 2016) as well as the strategies we have discussed in previous sessions. Identify at least three strategies you have learned about (e.g., prompting, shaping, chaining, fading, reinforcement/punishment, stimulus control) that you believe are present in the program you researched.
Remember the following terms:
Prompting is defined by Miltenberger (2016) as a strategy to “increase the likelihood that a person will engage in the correct behavior at the correct time” involving either behavior of trainer or environmental stimuli (p. 534).
Shaping involves reinforcing approximations of the behavior being targeted (for instance, an attempt at drawing a circle that looks like a partial circle).
Chaining provides support for people learning to follow a chain of behaviors (for instance, making a sandwich).
Reinforcement is the introduction of a consequence for a behavior that heightens the likelihood that the behavior will occur again, while punishment decreases the likelihood of the behavior occurring again.
Stimulus control involves heightened frequency of a behavior occurring as a result of the presence of a given stimulus (for instance, working harder when the supervisor is in the room).
Please read more about these terms in your textbook and/or watch the videos provided this week to help you further understand these terms.
In a mind-map format, create a summary of your findings including the following:
Central topic (organization or program of your choice)
Branches: Three behavior modification strategies (cite Miltenberger, 2016)
Coming from each branch, include two to three examples of the use of this strategy in your selected organization (or a way that you could envision the strategy being used to support organizational purposes).
Be creative with this assignment by using visual indication of more or less significant words (i.e., using larger fonts, bold letters, images, etc. throughout your map). This assignment may be done electronically or by hand, but if done by hand, must be scanned as a PDF file to be uploaded to Blackboard.
