Communist Manifesto, do that now. An assignment on this is due on November 4.
Instructions for this assignment will be provided by October 21.
2. Read the following material from the required texts:
Marks, The Origins of the Modern World
Ch. 4 “The Industrial Revolution and Its Consequences, 1750-1850,” pp. 103-133
Standage, A History of the World in 6 Glasses
Ch. 9 “Empires of Tea,” pp. 175-197
Ch. 10 “Tea Power,” pp. 198-220
Davidson, Atlas of Empires
“Empires and Nations” (Napoleon, Russia, Austrian Hapsburgs), pp. 164-187
3. Journal Entry #6 (due October 28) – 350-400 words, typed, double-spaced, upload
(a) Lift out three things (e.g., persons, events, ideas, etc.) that you learned, either for the first time or in getting a new perspective on, from the assigned readings listed just above.
Pick one thing from Marks, one from Standage, and one from Davidson. Indicate the page number(s) of the thing you are noting.
(b) Briefly comment on each of these three things you learned.
You should not give a summary of what you read; the emphasis is on your response to what you read!
NOTE: for this and all future Journal entries, please put your name, History 1302-06, and the Journal entry number (#6, in this case) and due date at the top of the sheet.
