Interoperability Standards Advisory (ISA)
Overview
Design a digital essay for a heath IT standard (different from the one selected in your initial discussion board post) found in the ISA, a resource of standards and implementation specifications published by the Office of the National Coordinator for HIT (ONC), a federal entity.
Purpose
The purpose for this assignment is to develop effective and clear communication skills regarding health IT standards and federal policy essential to managing terminologies within health information systems to support semantic interoperability.

Create a digital essay (see About Digital Storytelling for an explanation and 8 Steps to Great Digital Storytelling for a how-to). Use the tool of your choice to create your digital essay; different tools are explained on the About Digital Storytelling website.
- Refer to the (ISA) Document Table of Contents
- Select the Vocabulary/Code Sets/Terminology section and then an “interoperability need” where a vocabulary/code set/terminology standard(s) is listed. For example, select Social, Psychological, and Behavioral Data as the interoperability need.
- When more than one option for the interoperability need is available, pick one. For example, there are 12 possible interoperability needs under Social, Psychological, and Behavioral Data. Representing Food Insecurity, which lists five vocabulary/code set/terminology standards, is one of the 12.
- Evaluate the content presented for your selected interoperability need. Consider the six informative characteristics in the grid, the limitations, dependencies and preconditions for consideration section, as well as any constraints to the vocabulary/code sets/terminology such as a specific value set. Draw a conclusion regarding the use of a controlled terminology in messaging standards and terminology binding.
- Create a digital essay (minimum of 5 minutes) based on step 4 and other resources such as those found via links in the ISA for your interoperability need. Include an evaluation of a health IT application where the vocabulary/code set/terminology would be used.
- Submit the assignment. Be sure to include your name in the assignment.
