World in America: Multi-ethnic Literature of America
Welcome to Module 8.
In this module, we will examine many current voices that represent American Literature today. We will examine ethnic literatures, such as Asian American, Latin American, Arab American, and other multi-ethnic texts. We will hear from the writers that are active today and see how they tell stories to harness the power of writing: to raise awareness, change our attitudes or behaviors, and in general, make us better humans.
Module Learning Objectives
Upon successful completion of this module, students will be able to:
analyze the current themes important to American writers
evaluate the progress made over centuries to develop the character of American literature
describe the relationship of ethnic American literature to the literary cannon
evaluate the power of storytelling
compose the student’s own story of American identity
