Research shows that patients’ outcomes get improved when the nursing procedures are evidence-based. This procedure is a precise approach used by clinicians, including current best practices from well-researched studies, patients’ values and preferences, and nurses’ experience. Evidence-based practice has been reported to improve the patient’s safety and clinical outcomes, reduce variations in patient outcomes and reduce healthcare costs (Paige et al., 2017). The purpose of selecting obesity as the topic for this discussion is that there has been an increase in the number of overweight people. People seem to be less informed on the risk of being overweight. The topic is crucial in nursing practice as members of public health should educate people on methods o weight control and the risks associated with being overweight.

Obesity is a state of being overweight which is an increasingly prevalent condition across the globe. According to the body mass index (BMI), a person is considered overweight if their BMI index lies between 25 and 29.9, while one is regarded as being obsessed if their BMI index is 30 and above.

Hypertension occurs when systolic blood pressure is above 140mm Hg or where the diastolic blood pressure is above 90 mm Hg. Studies show that approximately one billion people are said to have elevated blood pressure. There exist a positive association between being overweight and having elevated blood pressure. The relationship was noted back in the early 1920s. Studies show that being obese puts one at a higher risk of having elevated blood pressure than a healthy weight. The implications of hypertension are immeasurable, and it becomes impossible to ridicule out due to its association with different threatening factors such as being overweight (Cohen, 2017). High blood pressure is a significant factor that results in different chronic diseases. Blood pressure control would have a substantial impact on deaths resulting from hypertension.

There have been positive results on eight losses associated with reducing blood pressure, which is accomplished through traditional calories restrictions and lifestyle modification change. Taking a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and low-fat dairy intake reduces pressure by 5.3 systolic and 3.0 mm Hg diastolic. On the other hand, physical activities impact pressure levels as it is part of the recommended regime for weight loss mechanism. Studies show that physical exercise reduces blood pressure levels by 3 to 5 mm Hg. However, since weight loss cannot be achieved without combining diet and biological activity factors, it becomes challenging to study the impacts of each independent factor (Cohen, 2017). However, it is clear that losing weight without considering how it is accomplished positively reduces blood pressure.
