Paper #4 Observation of Social Dance in Society through different Cultures

Cultures all over the world dance for different reasons. Religion, rite of passage to woman/man hood, celebration, entertainment, communication and many other reasons. In our American “bubble” we tend to look at dance through our own narrow lens instead of how the world uses it. 

Assignment:

Go to youtube. 

Find social dance outside of the United States. (You may use a different cultural dance inside of the U.S. like Dance as a rite of passage with American Indians.) (Idea: search dance as a rite of passage, african social dance, ceremonial dances of china, religious dances of India, dances of worship in different countries)

Write at least two well developed paragraphs about this dance. 

Please include:

Where the dance comes from, what culture is being observed, reason for the dance, how the dance is used, what the movements look like and any other observations that you find interesting.

Grading Rubric:

100 points= all requirements of the assignment were met.

50 points= half of the requirements of the assignment were met.

0 points= less than half of the assignment or none of the assignm
