Tell me about your work history to this moment.
Prior to coming to Canada, I was a trained nurse in my home country. I have a bachelor’s degree in nursing and worked as a nurse for four years. When I came to Canada, I could not practice Nursing, I was told I needed some upgrade courses.
While waiting for my credentials to be evaluated, I thought of working as a PSW for the main time. I was surprised to find out that I also required to take a PSW certification in order to qualify to work as a PWS.
However, I was fortunate to find and agency who could employ me as a PSW because I was a trained nurse overseas.
How was your job prior to coming to the pandemic?
Prior to the pandemic, my agency would assign us to different patients but when the pandemic started, we were assigned to just one patient, so it was one-on-one

We had to wear one mask all day especially since we take care for just one patient.
it Just feels stuffy, putting on the mast all day for a 12 hour shift, I developed redness around my jaw area.
Did the client have to wear the PPE as well?
No, just the other PSW and other healthcare workers attending to the client.

Friends avoided me for fear of me transmitting the virus to them.
we had to take the COVID-19 testing every week and will respond to screening questions before entering the facility.
I don’t drive so I rely on public transportation. I experience hoe other passengers will avoid coming close to me in the bus
restriction of being with one client made it difficult for me to work extra hours to make more money
what was some of the challenges you face caring for clans during the pandemic with restrictions of visitors client’s family?
It was very difficult during the lockdown especially restricting family and friends to visit the clients. The client felt isolated. I did my best to support them emotionally and keep them company, talk to them and respond to their emotional needs.
with the vaccine in place are you requires to take the vaccine?
clients are concerned and feel anxious if we have not vaccinated originally, I didn’t want to take the vaccine, but I had to take it because I had to secure my job.
