I have always had a passion for caring job

Work at home health agency, visiting clients at their homes

Experience with PPE

We experience shortage of PPE especially the mask and it was worst at beginning of pandemic where one had to stay with one mask most of the time. Gloves too were sometimes reused which I find extremely weird. We later had more supply, but still will not change them between patients, we change mask basically only when they get soiled.

What PPEs were you supposed to wear?

Mask, goggle, shield, gowns

Did clients wear PPE?

family members came in and out and some family members not wearing mask.

How was the workload?

There was constant shortage of workers and we had to fill in for others.

Sometimes, I didn’t even have time to change the PPE, or it will just take me extra time putting them on. It makes me show up sometimes late to clients home moving from one home to another.

Relationship with family and friends

When day cares were closed, it was tough for me, having young children. I had to rely on friends for babysitting.

There are days when I will stay away from my children, especially when I get exposed to a client who has covid.

Some friends drifted away from me and isolated me for fear that I might bring the virus to them.

What motivated you to keep working?

I just kept on going considering the facts that I have young kids looking up to me. I had to keep food on the table, besides that, I need to be sending money home to support my family and mother who is sick and need my assistance. Quitting was not an option for me I had to do what I got to do.

what are required of you with regards to vaccine?

now some families will prefer only PSW’s who have vaccinated to attend to their loved ones though they say vaccine is not mandatory I see some prefer one PSWs who are vaccinated to work with them.

How do you compare working in the pandemic with regular times?

pre pandemic we just work, now we are pushed to work with limited resources more clients less time more hours to work isolated from friends and family members.
