PSY144: INTRODUCTION TO FORENSIC PSYCHOLOGY
Assignment 1: 1000-word essay
Deadline: Friday 13th August, 2021 4pm, on Canvas, via Turnitin
“Compare and contrast two theories of offending”.
(Please ensure that these are two different theories to your first attempt)
Assignment Format:
Title Page: containing the essay question, your name, your affiliation (University of Sunderland, Faculty of Health Sciences and Wellbeing, School of Psychology), the name of your programme, module code and title, the date of submission and word count;
Introduction: this should describe the purpose of your essay and introduce the two theories of offending that will be included in your essay. You should also briefly mention the key arguments/points you will be including;
Main Body: this section should be the main part of your essay and should take up the majority if your word count. You should draw on theory and research in comparing and contrasting the two theories;
Conclusion: this should summarise your key points in your essay but also provide a coherent conclusion in relation to the essay question;
The assignment should be formatted to Times New Roman, font size 12, with double line spacing. Pages should be numbered;
The assignment should include references in text and a reference list at the end. Please use APA style for all of your references; guidance is available at Citations and Referencing Guide (Psychology);
This assignment counts for 50% of your module mark and assesses the following learning outcomes:
K1. The ability to explain major concepts and debates in Forensic Psychology.
S1. The ability to review and evaluate research relevant to the role of psychological variables in criminal behaviour.
Please make sure your work meets these learning outcomes.
This assignment relates to material covered in Lectures 2 and 3 ‘Theories of Offending 1 and 2’. This should be your starting point but you are expected to complete further reading.
