Outside Factors and Effective Treatment

Adolescents in foster care, in most cases, lack appropriate treatment and care from their caregivers as a result of the legal system not having excellent and well-supported frameworks to ensure effectiveness in the treatment strategies laid out. Children and adolescents under foster care experience many challenges and, consequently, are exposed to a high risk of attaining mental health disorders such as traumatic stress disorders and sexual violence from the people supposed to be taking care of them. Treatment strategies in children in the adolescent stage should be restructured so that the legal system will have proper interventions focusing on reform and law enforcement measures. This is likely to be achieved through rigorous evaluation of their effectiveness in their community by having a supportive cultural identity, friendly and safe environment, and strong bonds in the family set up in parent-child counseling and therapy.

They have been a lack of sufficient research on the effectiveness of the legal interventions procedures and their intensity, and the role foster parents have to play in overseeing the fair treatment of children under their keep. The legal system has a crucial role in ensuring that children and adolescents are protected from harm and abuse. It should ensure children receive social support, legal assistance, and medical help and take upon detailed procedures in investigating and prosecuting those engaged in child maltreatment which will involve removing the children from foster care if need be, terminating the parents’ rights, establishing courts to handle children affairs and take upon all corrective measures advocating for child welfare protection (Child Welfare and the Criminal System: Impact, Overlap, Potential Solutions, 2018). The following intervention strategies are being proposed; need for mandatory and urgent reporting, placement of the children in courts, increasing criminal prosecution on offenders of child sexual abuse, improving procedural and evidentiary reforms, and child witnesses.

The culture, environment, and family hugely affect the effectiveness of the legal intervention strategies in society. Looking at foster care which is a culturally diverse entity, not all communities are in total support of it due to religious, racial, and other social differences. When put under foster care, children have to adapt to the new environment, different rules, traditions and expectations, and communication styles, ensuring efficiency in this provides a burden to both the foster children and foster parents. Suggestions have been made to have children join foster homes with the same religious and racial affiliation to get willing and ready parents who will face more minor difficulties in taking care of them. Solid and healthy cultural identity dramatically contributes to the success and effectiveness of the intervention strategies through providing high social well-being standards and mental health awareness and resilience in children. The culture needs improvement to facilitate social diversity and minimize events of discrimination.

The environment should provide safety, adequate space and be friendly to the foster children to facilitate stability. Environmental factors relating here involve psychological dynamics in the family and society and the area in which these children and their foster parents will be based (How To Create A Safe And Stable Home Environment For Foster Children, 2021). A supportive environment containing adequate financial resources and social support will highly be advantageous to the effectiveness of the intervention strategies. The environment should be more secure and supportive for the children (How To Create A Safe And Stable Home Environment For Foster Children, 2019). The new family to the foster children should be flexible and adapt to new changes to accommodate them and provide guidance, support, training, and development since it is the closest entity to facilitate the effectiveness of the intervention measures. The family needs to ensure the foster children feel at home, integrated and involved in different aspects, and protect them.
