This ritual can be a popular one that is widely known or a personal one that is particular to your family or community. Either way, identify its source—how do you know about it?

Explain its steps from beginning to end.

Briefly address what you see to be its significance (why people perform said ritual, etc.).

Break the stated ritual into the preliminal, liminal, and postliminal stages as outlined and described by Smith, explaining what characteristics allow you to identify each.

Apply the rational or the expressive theory to the ritual, and say why you think the rational or expressive theory is a more compelling approach to you in viewing to this ritual.
