YouTube has Created Excellence in the Way Humans Share Ideas
YouTube is the most prevalent social media platform to connect with friends, learners, families, and groups in today’s digital world. It is one of the most efficient methods of reaching a vast audience, whether in the academic world or a business setting. For instance, in marketing, YouTube videos are an effective and fast way to get the organization’s brand’s message out (Cunningham 71-81). Furthermore, Visual signs are an excellent way of capturing the physical attributes of what is offered in the market and the general mood of the customers. Moreover, in education, YouTube serves as a communication tool that provides an alternative to the traditional sharing methods, such as podcasts and lectures. It is also used for online coaching and allows learners to save their work, assignments, and projects. Even though the personal-information videos on YouTube may sensationalize self-injury, and reinforce harmful behavior through regular viewing, I strongly propose that the use of YouTube has created excellence in the way humans share ideas and opinions.
According to research, YouTube is the second most prominent portal that has been in existence for more than one and half decades (Leskin). The users can upload more than one hundred hours of videos after every one minute. In addition, scholars may successfully create their links and save their projects there, obtaining public comments on how to handle the assignments, which enhances the quality of work. This can be realized by creating channels such as class blogs. There is no need for physical classes; hence, online tutorials are being offered via this medium.
Another interesting thing with YouTube is that the videos uploaded are shareable, meaning one can connect with people in different parts of the world. Videos are shared across the internet, while some are restricted based on users’ interests (Buntain 1-26). Tutors and their students can share compelling films of presentations and lecture notes more effectively and fast.
It is interesting to figure out how YouTube has grown to be a powerful tool for knowledge dissemination. Usually, individuals gain inspiration from vlogging materials from the platform. One requires minimal editing, and this yields a solid emotional connection between the blogger and the viewers. Most of the information posted here is easy to understand. Additionally, I am moved by how the site has evolved into a vital tool for conveying data among various parties. Currently, opinion leaders are shifting to YouTube to disseminate their ideologies and thoughts on changing society. The platform also offers sleep-aiding music that can help those individuals who are insomniacs (Eke).
Moreover, organizations employ YouTube videos to advertise their goods and services. A good example is the Ultimate Fighting Champion, a sporting activity formed to market its fights (Lars). The more the followers are on the platform over a given time, the more marketing activities will successfully reach the intended audience. Witnessing how large companies use the site to increase their sales has piqued my curiosity.
In addition, web 2.0 is a good marketing channel for companies. The organization could utilize it to launch goods, express the personality of brands, track feedbacks, give customer service, and aid the consumers spread the word about one’s company. Once the company has captured the people’s attention, an organization can employ videos to nurture potential leads like video testimonials further, rather than getting the typically written testimonial from the customers, and it can film them. Again, to generate more brand awareness, a firm can use the medium to showcase brand videos, conduct interviews with thought leaders and influencers in the company’s niche and content marketing (Sarah). Generally, the channel has helped businesses to improve sales, yield more conversions and leads, drive more traffic to the website and improve customer engagement.
Statistics indicate that about one hundred and sixty million members have subscribed to YouTube. This may help firms attract more consumers, actively engage the existing ones, and serve as an internal communication channel (Duffett et al. 1-24). According to (Schemmer and Ziewiecki 1-20), it is the leading video search engine; this means that if a user uploads an amusing or an educational video, instantly this exposes the product to tens of thousands of people globally. Additionally, an organization can use YouTube to promote a particular service, position the organization as the expert and provide means for the potential prospects to contact the firm. The integration of YouTube’s Google AdSense advertising platform enables an individual to sell through methods such as pay-per-click.
Educational materials have become more accessible with the advent of the web 2.0 platform. There is a broad array of scientific documentaries, tutorials, and instructional materials available through free access on YouTube. Individuals that possess profound knowledge on the topic contribute a lot to this platform to share their expertise and communicate with students. The option to leave comments on the medium is what makes the communication process and collaboration active.
The blogging activities we experience nowadays originated from the online diary, which was initially utilized to monitor private lives. The advancement of tools to aid with the maintenance and production of web journals uploaded in reverse chronological order enabled the printing process to be accessible to a less technical and broader audience. Furthermore, most of the content on YouTube is free. Individuals can easily discuss and develop opinions with other viewers compared to other sites, which require subscriptions and membership before accessing the materials. It has evolved into a form of interaction between communities and individuals. For example, people can post short video messages by using vlogs that show daily activities and incidents of interests and share with individuals of shared interests. Thus, many established users are currently reaching a larger audience as compared to other mainstream media sources.
Video logging is the most typical kind of sharing of videos of social networks, and it modified how modern internet users collaborate and dialogue. It is essential to express everyday vlogging as the most ground-breaking communication factor that diminishes the limitations of private life. Most YouTubers film their daily lives and post them through the web, thereby empowering people to share their mundane lives with viewers worldwide. Moreover, the sharing of news has proven to be very popular among the users of the platform. A quick search on it allows an individual to view unedited and raw footage of events. This is opposed to the traditional media outlets’ methods who edit their news to be aired on television. The complete and unedited videos can alert the public to breaking news more efficiently and much quicker than ever before.
It’s worth noting that YouTube, as a video-sharing website, has ushered in significant transformations in video content delivery. Viewers can easily watch on-demand videos and at the same time share them with others. Due to the relative simplicity with which videos are generated, uploaded, and exchanged, the digital publishing society is very interested in the unique nature of customer-facing video-on-demand content. Users are active players in the media distribution framework. As customers set up, distribute, and receive materials on YouTube, it’s equally important to view YouTube usage from an audience-centric point of view. Also, anyone can exchange reasonable amounts of information with many people in a short period. Information can be entertainingly shared in the form of video animation, music, or comedy sketches.
Also, another way the platform has influenced communication is to make the world what it is. The medium has given its users the ability to travel anywhere in the world with a simple click of the mouse. For example, a person living in Canada can do a quick search on the platform, watch a video made by a German vlogger, and see what everyday life is like in Germany. The extensive selection of documentaries available in the medium allows anyone to see nature in the most distant places on the planet without the need to leave the comfort of their home. Therefore, it is a beneficial tool to eliminate the territorial limits that exist.
Moreover, it gives individuals professional avenues and provides them with an outlet to create. A record label might locate a talented songwriter through YouTube videos and offer a recording deal with the performer’s potential. In this case, the communication between the prospective singer and the employer is simplified. It is unnecessary to organize auditions and talent shows to discover the one fit for a company.
Moving forward, YouTube has a great future, specifically with the coronavirus pandemic, which has dramatically changed the social norms in society. Movement is restricted, and human beings need to be connected, so video’s quick acceptance as a way of helping satisfy that need illustrates how significant this medium has become for so many individuals. Establishing relatability, a sense of togetherness, and engagements are all shortcuts for making people feel connected. The medium has created shots where people with smartphone gadgets can link with new prospects using the shorts camera section on the platform (Wardhani and Chen 36-46). Similarly, organizations can leverage their entertainment and innovation to include more value in our lives.
Even though the above reasons fuel the interest in YouTube’s contribution to information sharing in modern society, its use has limitations and objections. Programs such as Disney Junior have produced violent materials that harm children by using vulgar scenarios. Many people have criticized the use of YouTube in sharing information and ideas. YouTube for kids, launched in 2015 for preschoolers, claims that it has almost eleven million weekly followers. Guardians and parents have disclosed a slew of unsuitable movies on the application, thereby underscoring the platform’s reliance on technology and insufficient human supervision.
In addition, organizations that employ YouTube to share ideas have reported challenges where their opponents manage their ads alongside their videos and, by so doing, ruin their brands. Additionally, just like the other social media platforms, excessive YouTube use has created dependency among individuals and addiction. Another disadvantage associated with the use of YouTube is that it is a public social media platform. That means there is no need to create an account to view the videos published on different channels. Because anyone can post any video, this could result in copyright issues and privacy invasion.
Moreover, in case of a breach of the set rules, one’s account can be disabled anytime without reason being provided and hence lose everything. Similarly, the policies and regulations provided can restrict activities that can be performed in the channel. Some firms could be unwilling to utilize it to host their videos, as they are worried about the diminished command they will have on their products. The medium also creates an entry for undesirable adverse commentary, consequentially impacting the organization’s brand reputation. When a firm host’s videos on the channel, it sends its viewers to a site not operated by a government entity. This implies that the posts will be more noticeable in Google than those embedded onto one’s site. The last problem is dealing with clutter and its auto-play feature.
In conclusion, the use of YouTube has generated many benefits, particularly in information sharing. Many companies have benefited from it as they can promote their products to the general public, position the organization before the potential end-users, and interact with customers. Moreover, the associations have evolved to form an online community where teams and individuals share data and interact. More and more individuals continue to embrace the medium to gain knowledge and understanding and make other people aware of the current trends and affairs in their lives. Education and news sharing have become easier with the emergence of YouTube. Individuals that have mastery of specific topics can share understanding. At the same time, those that see an unusual event can record it and upload it unchanged for everyone to watch what occurred. All of the awareness and sharing of news is further promoted by the viewers’ remarks on videos, leading to the enormous information flow on the web.
When used excessively, it can be pretty addictive. Similarly, its parts which children use have constantly been reporting cases where they slip some contents that may be unsafe for kids. However, I firmly believe that YouTube has played a crucial part in information sharing in this digital era.
