HW.10: Prep for the Final Presentation
For HW this week, I want you to spend some time prepping your final presentation. The guidelines for the presentation are posted in the last Module, and are also available through the “Discussions” link.
I’ve also posted a file called “GEOL351_useful_links.doc” that lists a number of the websites we used in class. These interactive websites should be the basis of the figures you generate for each section – just do a screen grab of the relevant information (and make a figure caption describing the figure and including the website where you got it from).
Part 1: Choose a topic
Choosing the right scenario might be the hardest part, and will likely take some iterating through as you find the appropriate data. So, this is just a start. What you write here is definitely not binding!
What location are you researching?
Who is your stakeholder (business, event, etc)?
Part 2: Resources
What resources does your stakeholder rely on?
Pick 1-2 key resources and think about what data you could show to illustrate how they are changing.
Part 3: Hazards
What hazards are common in the region?
What data can you show to illustrate the severity or trend of these hazards?
Part 4: Climate
How will climate impact this stakeholder?
What data can you show to illustrate the climate risk?
Part 5: Make a figure (or two or three). The more you make, the more time you’re saving on your final project. And, I will be able to provide feedback for these ones.
Now that you’ve thought about what data to use, make at least one figure (from either Part 2, 3, or 4). Include a figure caption that describes the figure and includes the website you created it from. For example:
Figure 1: The figure above shows energy investments for Douglas County, KS. The colors represent total investments ($ thousands) and the icons illustrate the type of investment. Generated from the USDA’s Energy Investment Map.
