Purpose: This “Alternative” Classroom Evaluation assignment was created to provide students with the opportunity to explore one of the major Student Learning Outcomes (SLO’S)s in our course: Analyze an early childhood environment related to children’s behavior. (Due to the current Covid-19 social distancing restrictions it is not possible to complete the classroom evaluation onsite)

Task: For this assignment you will be exploring 2 of the modules inside of the “Virtual Lab School” https://www.virtuallabschool.org/preschool.

Each of the following Modules contain several different topics:

Positive Guidance

Social Emotional Development

Go to the virtual preschool site (link above) and explore all of the topics under Positive Guidance and Social Emotional Development-

Read the materials

View the videos

Take the assessments.

Write a four page paper that answers the following prompts and is formatted as follows:

Summarize: Write a summary of what you discovered from each module under each topic. (Each summary (a & b) should specifically address each topic and be approximately minimum 1 page in length)

Social Emotional Development

Connect and Reflect: connect to the text and other course materials and reflect on how the information you have explored informs your current or future career with children and/or families.

How does the information you have explored in the learning environments module relate to topics we have explored so far in CDECE 59 this semester? (provide reasoning and back up your connection with direct text quotes or other content provided during the semester)

What new ideas or information did you discover? (choose 2-4 new ideas and why you think they are important)

Reflect on what this information means to you- how do you imagine you will use this information in your present or future career and why? (don’t forget the why!)

Grading Rubric: 25 possible points

Paper is standardly formatted with a heading that has the student’s name, course and assignment title (2 pts)

A summary of all 2 modules are present and addresses all prompts (6 pts)

Both “connect and reflect” questions are answered (5 pts)

Two meaningful and accurately cited text quotes are included (4 pts)

The paper has less than 10 grammatical, punctuation, spelling and/or sentence structure errors (1 pts)

The paper shows a strong understanding of each topic and is well connected to both course content and the virtual preschool modules. This is shown by providing well connected examples and thoroughly addressing each prompt. (2 pts)
