You will first need to introduce and summarize the journal article. Must be 2-3 paragraphs long.
Then you will need to spend time critiquing it. Critiques can include the following:
Concerns that the author missed important considerations when developing hypotheses
Concerns about confounding variables not considered in the article
Praises/Concerns about methodology (I don’t expect you to have all the knowledge of a graduate student, but think about some of the record keeping that we discussed in week 1)
Praises/Concerns about the conclusions from the article
Please note that this list is not exhaustive. You may critique in other ways.
Finally, you will need to make conclusions about the article. The conclusion paragraph should synthesize your thoughts about the article and include what you found most interesting about the article OR additional research questions you have from reading the article.
Introduction
Includes the title, author(s), and purpose of the article.
Purpose of the article is clear and includes areas being critiqued
Summary
The article is clearly and succinctly summarized.
Only the key points of the article are touched upon.
The summary is no longer than 2-3 paragraphs long.
The writer clearly relates the concepts to the article
Critique
Article is clearly understood by the writer.
Each area of the critique is stated clearly and succinctly.
Each area of the critique includes relevant details
The writer uses references, either through quotations or page citations to support the points that the writer wants conveyed
Conclusion
Conclusion contains a thoughtful synthesis of the main points from the paper
Conclusion incorporates the most interesting point to the writer OR includes additional research questions
