1. Geothermal plant on a volcano in Hawaii
Most electricity in Hawaii (about 90%) is generated by burning fossil fuels. A geothermal plant uses heat from underground to generate electricity. Volcanoes provide an attractive option for geothermal electricity due to the massive amounts of heat energy. The southwestern area of Haleakalā on the island of Maui is the area of interest.
