communication & reflection

purpose of essay = explore the importance of effective communication in a healthcare setting + explain how the use of a recognized model of reflection can help the healthcare practitioner when things go wrong
should be included:
– the importance of effective communication in healthcare (include reference to background reading)
– your experience of communicating with the student clinician during your clinical consultation (had few sessions with a chiropractic student / the input just has to be a realistic situation)
– how this experience made you feel, as a patient
– consideration of how communication may break down in a healthcare setting and the possible consequences of this
– discussion of how a recognized model of reflection can help when communication breaks down (include reference). You may decide which model you refer to.

Do not include:
– discussion of the consultation itself, clinical details, tests or diagnoses
– any information that will identify the clinic, clinician, institution

references:
– referencing should be in USW Harvard Referencing style
– include 2-5 references

remember:
– ensure that you have addressed each of the above bullet points
– refer to the marking scheme when considering how much to write for the introduction, main body, …
– stick to the word count
– when writing about your experience in the clinical consultation, you may use the first person in your writing (I/me, etc.)

marking scheme:
– introduction 20%
– main body 60%
– conclusion 15%
– presentation 5%
