At this point, you’ve had the opportunity to see a lot of different styles of poetry. You’ve experienced different rhyme scheme, use of figurative language, and how poetic devices can highlight a text. After all of your experience, it’s only natural for you to construct an original poem!
I picked the topic of basketball. Jot down some ideas and sensory images that come to mind.
Decide how you want to structure your free verse poem. Remember: you don’t have to have any particular rhyme scheme or style for your poem. Instead, let your words flow and decide a structure that makes sense for your topic.
Aim to use at least two types of figurative language and two poetic devices in your work.
Your final poem should be at least 10 lines but no longer than 25. Once you’ve proofread and revised your poem, post it to the discussion.
