After summarizing and restating the idea, the body of the Paper makes an argument about whether or not that idea remains strategically relevant today. The Reaction Paper shows your comprehension of an important strategic insight and your ability to place that insight into context. The Paper affords you the opportunity to go on-the-record, taking a side on the merit (or demerit) of one core strategic idea. The Reaction Paper should be five pages in length (double-spaced) and at least 1,250 words in length. The only citations required should be to the main text you are analyzing. •Text: The Art of War (Sun Tzu, ??). •Strategic Concept: Attacking Cities is to be avoided at all costs. •Thesis: This idea is not relevant to the present day; technology and elite infantry tactics have made conquering cities much easier, at least so long as the attacker is willing to accept significant civilian casualties.
