Onarch Inc Summary:
For our group Management Synthesis project, I propose we choose the construction company Onarch Inc. I believe that Onarch Inc would be a good fit for this analysis for several reasons which I will describe below but mainly because it fits the criteria of being a small somewhat local company that is primed for growth. Another reason is when I was golfing with the owners last week, I couldn’t help but see the potential for growth with the right guidance. I believe we can give them some of that guidance.
About Onarch Inc
Onarch is a dry utility construction company in Rialto, CA that was founded in January of 2020 by two friends. These friends and owners of the firm are Jeff McCurdy and George Enriquez and they both share a 50/50 partnership of the company. While this partnership started out as friendship, it was also a strategic alliance that brought two different areas of knowledge to the firm. George has been a dry utility contractor for over 20 years and has extensive experience working with cities and other public works. He is the head of operations and manages the 19 employees they have in the field and is responsible for the work being done. Jeff, who has also been a contractor for over 20 years, has extensive knowledge working as a project manager for various utility companies. He also brings some experience in working with residential construction which is an area that the company intends to enter. He serves as the back-office manager and completes the job estimates, coordinates all project information, and is responsible for payroll and accounting.
The Firms Strategy
In the two years that the firm has been active, its first year of revenue was 1.2m. In its second year, the firm’s revenue increased to over 3.0m. Currently the firm’s strategy is to grow its partnerships with past customers and to double in revenue each year for the next 2-3 years. To help achieve this growth, the partners plan on applying their extensive knowledge in the industry and leveraging their network of suppliers. One new segment that they plan to enter is the dry utility installation for single-family home new construction. While this segment can be very profitable and provides reliable work, it is also dominated by large players that have been in the game for years and who have economies of scale in their production. To differentiate their company, they plan to position their company as a high-quality player that customers can depend on.
How we can Help
I believe that we can help the firm in several ways. The first area that I think we can help the firm is to help them define the soul of the company. Currently the company is so new, it does not have a mission statement, it has no history, and it has no company culture. I would propose that after analyzing the company, we can help it define itself with a mission statement and give them guidance on what positive company cultures to promote. The second area where I believe we can help the firms is in its strategy. Both partners are very intelligent business owners with extensive know how in their industry. However, something they lack is how to analyze your industry and how to conduct a SWOT analysis. I would also recommend we help them position their company so that it can enter the Single-Family segment so they can compete effectively with the big sharks and thrive. Who knows, maybe we’ll come up with some other management techniques and strategies that will help the company achieve its growth plans.
