Life does not take everyone on the same path. While many people find their passion early in life, others experience life and obstacles before discovering their calling. I found myself in the ladder situation. This decision was met with many hardships as I navigated through different avenues to find immigration law as the career path I wanted to partake.
I initiated my journey by excelling as a receptionist in a multi-attorney law firm, ventured to an immigration paralegal position, and advanced within the ranks until I achieved an office manager position overlooking the performance of junior and senior paralegals. My desire to do more to help the immigrant community was becoming unassailable. Without furthering my education, I had reached the top of my career path. At the end of 2019, I embarked on the journey of becoming a student once again. Currently, I have a GPA of 3.485 in pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree in Global Politics. Previously, at Heald College-Concord, I attained Grade 3.86 in Associate of Arts and Sciences degree with an emphasis in Criminal Justice.
I currently have part-time employment that covers my day-to-day expenses. Mount Saint Mary’s University has funded my education by providing a generous financial aid package, including FAFSA awards, dean’s award, academic grants, financial need grants, and loans. The financial aid package awarded by Mount Saint Mary’s University has allowed me to focus on my education without the heavy impact of covering the cost without aid. Receiving a scholarship from the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey would facilitate the way to complete my educational goals for the benefit of the immigrant community without the accrual of extensive debt that will take years to repay.
