Reasoning: This assignment links culture and business ethics, and thus provides you with the opportunity to understand business ethics from an international and cross- cultural perspective and challenge the validity of many prevailing moral standards.

Task

This is an individual essay that builds on Assignment One to address the question:

“Can ethical responses to topics, issues or problems be influenced by national or ethnic cultural traits reflected in Hofstede’s dimensions?”

Using examples from your own experience explore how ethical behaviour was affected by culture. Reference your own understanding of ethics and a specific cultural dimension or dimensions.

Based on your understanding of culture and cultural theory from the group work in Assignment One. Identify an “ethical”1 topic, issue or problem and write a critical essay on whether or not culture influences ethical responses to the topic, issue or problem. This individual critical essay should be no more than 500-words in length.

In addition, tutors will also be looking for the following:
• Format/layout in accordance with the specification given below
• Essay structure, coherence and clarity of writing
• Evidence of wide research and independent reading
• Demonstration of understanding through the application and clear relevance of chosen theories/frameworks
• Depth and quality of discussion, clearly focused on the questions set
• Quality and relevance of conclusions – which are clearly drawn from the preceding discussion
• The acknowledgement and referencing of ALL source materials within the text and within a separate reference list.

Formatting requirements
It is expected that your review and essay will be presented to a professional standard. It must:
• be word processed in Ariel 11 font;
• have single line spacing and include 2.5cm margins on all sides;
• have a line space between paragraphs with paragraphs not indented;
• have a header that includes your student number and the footer with page numbers;
• state the number of words used at the end of the essay (excluding tables, charts, references and appendices).
