Define and contrast TallBear’s concept of standing with versus studying up/down (it would be a good idea here to discuss the common dualisms that structure western research methodologies). – My Blog

T‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‍ake home exam 2 • Each response should range between 250-500 words per question (do not exceed 500 words per response). **You have 10% grace for the word limit, which applies to the entire exam (i.e., max 2200 words). • Grammar, spelling, and the structure of argumentation matter to the clarity of your writing and communication of ideas. • Be sure to familiarize yourself with standards of academic integrity, and proper citational practices. • Please use APA referencing. • Please set aside time to review and edit your writing prior to submission. 1. Define and contrast TallBear’s concept of standing with versus studying up/down (it would be a good idea here to discuss the common dualisms that structure western research methodologies). Explain Kilty’s notion of feminist research, then discuss similarities and differences between TallBear’s approach and Kilty’s (here you can draw on Crosby’s guest lecture for examples, if appropriate). ‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‍ 2. Define and explain what ‘thick description’ is and how it relates to the method and outcome of qualitative research. Drawing on the Odgen chapter, find an example of each of Ponterrotto’s aspects of thick description and demonstrate its fit with each aspect. 3. What is sensitive research, as per Perron et al.? Define this concept and explain how it relates both to individuals and institutions. Second, explain what measures and steps researchers should take when conducting sensitive research, and why this is necessary. 4. Drawing on Kilty’s chapter and course content, compare and contrast institutional feminism and critical feminist scholarship (the CSC might provide a good basis for examples). Be sure to discuss what knowledge claims (and how) are possible with both approaches. Then, discuss an embodied criminology/sociology in terms of its epistemological possibilities, and how this can align with feminist research. I will upload all releva‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‍nt readings for each question
