In this project the learners are required to demonstrate their understanding and knowledge of the importance of Inclusion and Integration in education and the role the SNA can play in developing an inclusive classroom environment. The project is in two parts.
Part 1: Definition of Inclusion and Integration
Inclusion
- Define the concept of Inclusion and why it is important.
- What are the benefits and challenges of Inclusion?
- Examine and discuss the different approaches to Inclusion.
Integration
- Define the concept of Integration and why it is important.
- What are the benefits and challenges of Integration?
- Examine and discuss the different approaches of Integration.
Part 2: Outline ways in which you could create a positive and inclusive classroom environment.
As part of the project you must create a visual aid for a student with a specific special need to help teach a life skill to promote independence, that would support the student’s inclusion and independence in the classroom environment under the guidance of the teacher. (25 marks in total).
- Discuss how the life skill would be taught using the visual aid you have created. As part of your discussion, you should include features such as; task analysis of the skill being taught, good communication skills, chaining, prompting etc.
- What challenges would you envisage and how would they be addressed.
- How would you promote independence for a child with special needs.
- Discuss the role of the SNA in promoting an independent and inclusive environment under the guidance of the teacher.
