Part I – Evaluating AI

AI Tool Prompt Evaluate Results Reflection
Tool 1 (Example: Heidi Health) Example Prompt: “Summarize the key points from this patient note: 45-year-old male with chest pain, high blood pressure, history of smoking.” – AI scribe for healthcare providers.
– Purpose: Transcribes and summarizes clinical notes in real-time.
Returned a structured SOAP note summary, highlighting symptoms, risk factors, and follow-up needs. Pros: Time-saving for clinicians, structured notes, HIPAA compliance.
Cons: Limited free use, requires clear input, occasional over-summarization.
Impact: Could greatly reduce documentation burden and improve patient encounter efficiency.
Tool 2
Tool 3

Part II – AI Symptom Checker Comparison

Tool Prompt Used Evaluate Results
Docus AI Symptom Checker Example: “I have had a persistent cough for 2 weeks, fatigue, and mild fever.” Lists possible diagnoses with probabilities and severity ratings. Allows patient to refine symptoms. Returned top possible causes: bronchitis, pneumonia, viral infection. Gave advice to see a doctor for further testing.
Symptomate Same prompt as above Asks multiple follow-up questions before giving results, provides more patient-friendly language. Returned possible causes: flu, COVID-19, bronchitis. Suggested home remedies and when to seek urgent care.

Reflection (250–350 words)

Both AI tools successfully provided differential diagnoses for the same symptom input, but their approach differed significantly. Docus AI was faster and offered a probability ranking for each potential condition, which could be valuable for clinicians but might overwhelm a layperson with medical jargon. Symptomate, on the other hand, used an interactive question-and-answer method to refine results, making it more approachable for the general public but slower to produce an answer.

Neither tool gave identical results—although both included bronchitis as a possibility, Docus leaned toward bacterial infections while Symptomate considered viral causes like COVID-19 and influenza. This difference may stem from each AI’s training data and medical guidelines reference set.

I found that refining the prompt improved accuracy, especially when adding details like “history of asthma” or “smoker.” Without refining the prompt, both tools gave a wider range of possibilities. This shows how crucial detailed input is when using AI in healthcare.

Overall, both tools could have a positive impact by improving patient awareness and potentially guiding them to timely medical care. However, these tools should never replace professional diagnosis—rather, they should be seen as complementary aids for initial assessment and patient education.
