Pandemic: Major Effects on Planning for Smithfield Custom Furniture Company.
With the pandemic looming, the entire planning cycle will need to be changed as the shutting down of the global economy artificially has never been done before. The objectives, premises, alternatives, resources, the road map and evaluation methods will all need to reflect the upcoming challenges outside of expanding market share (Bruton & Bruton, 2021).
1A: Pandemic: Most Significant Planning Action for Company
The most significant planning action for the company will be developing a premises and making assumptions about the future (Bruton & Bruton, 2021). There are going to be several external factors that will create problems for the company at all levels of the organization. Labor will be affected, resources will become scarce, moving products and material are going to become difficult, stores will be forced to close and all production operations will likely come to a halt.
Pandemic: Major Effects on Organizing for Smithfield Custom Furniture Company
With the company having operations in the U.S, Europe and China, the geographical structure of the company is going to be stressed in different areas and at different times, depending on the nature of how governments shut down their country’s economy. Also, the resiliency and willingness of leaders in those countries to reopen will affect the organization.
2A: Pandemic: Most Significant Organizing Action for Company
The most significant organization action for the company will come from the geographic areas that have a prolonged closure. Other parts of the company that are located in areas of the world that are reopening sooner will likely need to pick up additional roles of other parts of the company to get a jump start for demand when other countries begin to reopen. (Thompson, 2021)
Pandemic: Major Effects on Leading for Smithfield Custom Furniture Company
The pandemic is going to force leaders to leading in levels they haven’t thought before. The leaders will be called to inspire and motivate employees to come back to work. They will have to come up with innovating ways to make employees safe and yet not uncomfortable at the work place (Spencer, 2021).
3A: Pandemic: Most Significant Leading Action for Company
Leadership will to have to lead from the front. There maybe a time frame when working is optional for employees in certain countries because of enhanced benefits. If enhanced safety measures make employees uncomfortable and makes their daily work more difficult and employees could receive close to equal or more than they would normally earn under pandemic lifelines, then leadership will be on display for all those employees to see.
Pandemic: Major Effects on Controlling for Smithfield Custom Furniture Company
Management is going to depend on its Strategic Control to keep pace with the external impacts of the pandemic. Senior management will be looking for the perfect balance of change and flexibility to keep the company moving in the right direction. Too much change can increase inefficiencies, while not enough change could lead to dead ends in supply, operations and more loss of productions. (Lambarki, 2021)
4A. Pandemic: Most Significant Controlling Action for Company
The most significant issue for a controlling action for the company, is to determine how much of the processes during the manufacturing, production, logistics and other processes will be impacted. Every country the company is located in, will need to have a different amount of control to ensure operations can start back up as quickly as possible.
