Clinical Case
Jennifer, a 24 year old white British female, presents to her GP complaining of fatigue, headaches, light-headedness, shortness of breath, tachycardia, and pallor. Upon questioning, the patient stated that she had recent gone vegetarian and had been experiencing cravings for ice. Upon physical examination, the patients heart rate was 84 beats per minute, respiration rate was 25 breaths per minute, blood pressure was 110/75 mm/Hg. The patient is 158 cm tall and weighs 68 kg.
The GP requests a full blood count (FBC), erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), as well as iron studies, vitamin B12 and folate levels.
