Listening to those who know more than I do. Using “we” vs. “I” when describing future plans. Including the team in discussions. Staying in touch with those who have contributed to your success.

After failure, focusing on the future not the past. Find root causes without placing blame. Accepting responsibility. Positively moving forward.

Keep it simple. Avoid the image of someone who is a know-it-all, arrogant, scholarly or too complex. Keeping concepts simple.

Don’t forget those who have helped you in the past. Keep up with those who have helped you and your organization (quick visit, phone call, holiday greeting, text, email)

Showing people you really care. Remembering names. Being punctual, respecting other people’s time. Knowing what is important to other people. Being present with others.

Drive change by building trust. Being careful of what you promise. Saying when you can’t do something. Listening. Asking other’s views. Behaving in a trustworthy manner. Keeping commitments.

Asking. Spending the right amount of time with the team and asking their views before making decisions. Finding other’s strengths and freeing their talents.

Check your ego at the door. Be accessible. Don’t use “I” when “we” will suffice. Ask others for counsel. Remember you are in the organization to serve, not to be served.
