MODULE 3
Description
This paper will further enhance your understanding of the management of heart failure by therapeutic class, medication mechanism of action, and associated adverse effects.
Instructions
In a 4-6 page paper, please do the following:
Review the Pharmacologic treatments for Stage C Heart Failure (source) and construct a paper on the following:
1. Identify the major drug classes used to manage patients with HF
2. Discuss what purpose the different drug classes serve (what treatment effects do they have on the patient?)
3. Briefly explain the mechanism of action of each of the major drug classes
4. Provide an example of 2-3 drugs in each medication class, along with the typical starting and maximum doses used
5. Highlight the major adverse events or risks of treatment-related to each drug class
Please use APA formatting to cite all of your sources and provide a reference page.
MODULE 4
Description
This paper will further enhance your understanding of diuretic drugs, similarities and differences among mechanism of action, clinical use and side effects.
Instructions
In a 2-3 page paper, summarize the specific site of action within the nephron, common medication examples (including dosing) for each drug class and major side effects associated with each of the following drug classes:
1. Osmotic diuretics
2. Loop diuretics
3. Thiazide diuretics
4. Potassium sparing diuretics
Please use APA formatting to cite all of your sources and provide a reference page.
MODULE 7
Description
This paper with further enhance your understanding of the various roles of healthcare providers in the modern healthcare system, along with the process of medication ordering, dispensing and administration in the hospital setting
Instructions
In a 3-4 page paper, please do the following:
Describe the various roles of the following healthcare providers (HCPs): physician, nurse practitioner, physician assistant, pharmacist, registered nurse and respiratory therapist. Please include background on the varying degrees of education and training required for these different HCPs
Explain the various steps involved in administering a medication to a patient in the hospital setting. The discussion should include ordering, verification, preparation and administration of a medication. What steps are taken to reduce medication errors?
Compare and contrast various routes of medication administration: IV, oral, subcutaneous, intramuscular and inhalation. How is the bioavailability of a medication affected by the route of administration?
Please use APA formatting to cite all of your sources and provide a reference page.
MODULE 8
Description
This paper will further enhance you understanding of the pharmacologic management of various disease states. At the end of this assignment, you should feel comfortable reviewing the treatment guidelines published by a recognized medical organization and be able to successfully formulate a treatment plan for a patient with a common medical condition.
Instructions
In a 4-7 page paper, please do the following: Pick one of the following disease states: Community acquired bacterial pneumonia, Heart failure, Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) or Asthma. Review in detail the PHARMACOLOGIC TREATMENT section of the guidelines for this disease state that has been published by a recognized medical organization. I do not want a summary of diagnosis, etc. – this is not the purpose of the assignment

COPD: (Links to an external site.)
Asthma: (Links to an external site.)
HF: (Links to an external site.) (click on “PDF article”)
After reviewing the treatment portion of the guidelines, develop a treatment plan for a patient with both a MILD case of the disease you have chosen AND a more SEVERE case of the disease. The treatment plan should include a list of medications the patient would need to take, along with their mechanism of action and what therapeutic benefits the patient may experience by taking the medication. Typically, patients with more advanced diseases will require more therapies and more aggressive management.
Once again, focus on the pharmacologic interventions these patients might require.
Be sure to consider various pharmacokinetic factors when selecting a treatment plan. Please highlight potential side effects you should make the patient aware of prior to having them take these medications (stick to the MOST COMMON side effects for purposes of the assignment).
Please use APA formatting to cite all of your sources and provide a reference page.
