Personal Response through the principle of Design.
In this forum thread, I would like you to try a bit of personal response and descriptive writing.
First, look through the textbook and select a non-figural, abstract work dating between 1945 and 1970 (think, Abstract Expressionism, Minimalism, Op-Art, etc.). Look at the work for about five seconds (make sure this initial observation is brief). Then, in about a few sentences describe your reaction. Do you have any emotional response? Does it remind you of anything? Do you like the form that you saw? After writing, go back and look at the image again. This time, look at the work for at least three minutes. Follow the forms with your eyes. Try to notice each little detail. Pay attention to the principles of design and visual elements used. Then, write another couple of sentences describing your reaction. Have your feelings toward the work changed at all?
