I recently had the pleasure of watching Retro Puppet Master (1999) directed by David DeCoteau. A film intended to be categorized as horror, but frankly, is so bad that in my opinion can only be ackowledged as a comedy. But I digress. The dark and “terrfiyfing” ambiance of the film is set with a conglomeration of different colors cast over specific scenes to insinuate different points in time as the storyteller leads us to the origins of a magical egyptian spell ad how a wizard then flees to France in order to evade capture from the god of eternal life Sutekh and his three modern mummy lackies. In the film, whenever scenes from the old Egyptian pyramids were shown, a blue/purple hue was cast over the scenes, then gray lighting was used for scenes involving the mummies plotting their capture o the wizard. The entire movie has dark lighting and shadows cast to amplify the horror.
I was able to find the whole movie on youtube and if one were to skip around to different scenes, they could see the blue and purple lighting throughout the film. The pyramids are at 3:22 and an example of the blue lighting used in the background are at 31:11.
Another movie that came to mind is Nightmare on Elm Street (2010) – I’m a horror movie fan, can you tell? Although the film has been remade and there are sequels, there is no denying the gloom imposed by the colorful theatrics depicting the horrific dreamworld of Freddy Kreuger. In the opening scene I have provided below, we see dark greens and reds being used along with hard lighting to emphasize the character’s nightmare. Red is a staple color in the Nightmare on Elm Street series as it correlates to the Freddy’s unfortunate history with fire.

The clip that I will use it a part of “Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows: Part 2”. It has very dark and grey colors to provoke a feeling of sadness, of something that is not pleasant but is sad at the same time. This scenary shows Woldemort and Harry fighting about a wand, on which Woldemort killed the person that he thought it was the owner of it, so he could have all the power of the wand for himself. As they have a discussin, Harry pushes him down of the tower, and the the scenary has different tons of gray and the lightning is dark as well, as they are outside, with a cloudy sky. The color gray is represented by depression and loss, and with the absence of more colors, it represents dull, which provokes a feeling of sadness, depression, and as they thew themselves down the buiding and they fly and fall somewhere, to the point where they point their wands to each other and make a spell on which it shows they are using all their power, while showing some other scenes with other chraracters running, crying and looking back, this will represent the loss. By the end of it, it shows that Happy Potter, after giving all of him streight and power, hasx won the battle, and Woldemort starts to desentegrate on the ar. On this scene, a lot of people had died on the battlefield where Happy and Woldemort were having their power battle, that also infruenced the climate being dark and grey, with not too many different tons
