Brief

Financial control is essential for clients when planning and undertaking capital construction projects to ensure their commercial viability. 

You are required to critically review the nature and scope of pre-contract financial management and advice provided by quantity surveying practices on construction projects in an agreed world region. 

Your response to the brief should include methodologies, use of appropriate technologies, relevant cost models and accurate cost data to provide maximum value for the project/s.

You can make use of case studies or individual personal knowledge of a particular project or a series of projects to address how financial cost control can potentially be enhanced.

A detailed report is required.

Task(s)

The report should address the following key areas: 

• Review the current and consider future pre-contract financial control and management provided by quantity surveying practices 

• Identify and discuss required responses to future requirements and challenges

• Provide an example calculation/s in the appendices linked to discussion and analysis in the main report to highlight particular issues or challenges at one of the following estimating stages – Order of Cost Estimate – Elemental Estimate – Pre Tender Estimate 

• Consider the advantages and challenges of adopting BIM to enhance pre-contract financial management

• Consider the implementation and application of whole lifecycle analysis

Format

The assignment is to be submitted in a report format and as such should have a formal structure and layout. It should be submitted as a single document.

Referncing

All submissions shall have a bibliography of references and sources used in the preparation of the project. The Harvard style of referencing must be used.
