Instructions

Instructions: In the final part of this course, we will begin to explore some of the philosophical underpinnings and debates in restoration ecology. As global climate change impacts every ecosystem on Earth, many wonder what the role of restoration will be in the future. In this 3-4 page essay, explore the following questions:

What role will ecological restoration play in the next 10 years? What about the next 50 years? 100 years? How will climate change affect the planning and trajectory of restoration projects? Support your answers to these questions with examples from a particular ecosystem.

For example, I may argue that climate change is going to interfere with coral reef restoration through increased bleaching and range shifts. I would then use coral reefs to answer the two questions more specifically. You may also consider coastal wetland systems, which will have changing water levels pushing wetlands up slope or inland, or tidal freshwater systems, which will have changing salinity gradients. One may also consider impacts to inland and freshwater systems and terrestrial systems, where climate models predict changes in the delivery and timing of water delivery (e.g. storms, droughts).

Write in a professional tone for an academic and scientific audience. Always credit authors and reference sources for their ideas and information. Follow APA style format. The reference list does not count towards the total page length.

Submission Instructions: Submit this assignment through the Classroom. You must submit in a file format that can run through Turnitin. This course uses automatic plagiarism checking software (Turnitin). You may submit your work up to the deadline to check your similarity scores (aim for 10% similarity or less for the text, excluding the references).
