Social and cultural factors play a huge role in people’s lives. The way a person was raised and the environment they grew up in helps to mold a person into whom they become. When a person isn’t given many opportunities growing up, they tend to need more governmental help. My client is having a hard time attending sessions at the agency because of transportation issues. The transportation company, Better Transportation Company, is a state funded transportation company. If my client would have had better opportunities earlier in life, they may not have had to rely on state funded transportation.

Some social and cultural issues that may impact the use of transportation is whether or not religion allows a woman to use the services is there is a male driver. Also, if the transportation service allows for an additional passenger to travel with the person who is designated to receive transportation services. Dispatch should know if a patient is in a wheelchair, if a patient is deaf, blind, disabled in any way or mentally challenged. These are things the drivers have to be equipped to handle. There will be instances where the client does not speak English; the driver should have a translation device to help him communicate with the client. (I have one at work; we have phones to communicate with each other and it comes with a translation app as well as a shortcut to dial any language the patient speaks.)

When delivering a message to an audience, you have to believe that there are people from all different walks of life with different backgrounds. Some people were given opportunities and some people had to go out and find opportunities. You have to be sure to try and think of every and any scenario that may leave a person in a financial bind dependent on the state funded transportation system to get to and from important appointments.
