Assignment: In the first few lessons, you were introduced to some of the key issues and debates within
aesthetics, and within the history and theory of art. In this first assignment, you are asked to reflect on these
issues and relate them to your own thoughts and feelings about art. You can start by discussing your own
thoughts and feelings about art. What kind of art do you like? Do you practice any art form? Can you define
what you think art is, or what distinguishes it from other types of activities and gives it its specific value? Try to
avoid just saying that art is subjective or anything anyone wants it to be, which can be another way of not
saying anything about art. If you do really think art is subjective, explain what you mean by subjective, and why
you value subjectivity. While this is a more personal reflection (more than any of the other assignments in this
course) you will get more marks if you can also reflect on the course readings and lessons covered up to this
point, by considering if any of the issues raised so far resonate with you, or by discussing simply how you feel
