Develop a working knowledge of a discrete-event simulation software package such as Simul8.Task and Mark distribution:Ricoh Arena Stadium: Crowd ManagementRicoh Arena, a flagship stadium for Coventry City football club has a seating capacity of about 32,000.Apart from a stadium there is an exhibition hall, a hotel and a casino. Of late, there has been criticismfrom football fans that entry into the stadium is difficult and inconvenient with long waiting timesduring football matches. As football fans are patrons for this ground and the clubs associated, it isimportant to provide quality service and enjoyable experience in Ricoh Arena and hence efficientmanagement of crowd is important.There are currently four stands (East, West, North and South) with five gates in each stand. Typicallythere are two types of customers namely customers with online tickets and without tickets. There areabout 1 in 5 customers without ticket and the rest buy online before arrival. Customers arrive in the allotted stand and join a common queue near their allotted gate.Thereafter tickets are checked for validity (Fixed distribution with 0.25 minutes/customer) and then gothrough security checks which take on an average 1 minute per customer (Normal distribution withstandard deviation of 0.25 minute). After security check customers enter the stadium and headtowards their seats. Each ticket check gate has one staff member. Security check stage has one staffmember for pat down checks and baggage checks for alcohol or restricted items.For customers without ticket, each stand is equipped with one ticket counter for issuing any availabletickets. These customers arrive randomly in one of the four stands. It takes on an average 4 minutes(normal distribution with standard deviation of 1 minute) to issue a ticket and help them choose theirpreferred seat in the same stand. Once a ticket is issued, these customers join the common queue inthe same stand near their allotted gate along with customers with online ticket.For the upcoming match there are about 10,000 seats expected to be sold in equal proportion to all thefour stands. The match is expected to start at 12:00 noon. These include customers with online ticketand without ticket in the same proportion as mentioned earlier. Assume that customers start arriving 4hours before the start of a match (i.e. from 08:00) and at a fixed arrival rate of 15 customers/minute toeach stand. There will be no customers arriving after 11:00. With these arrival data, the stadiummanager is concerned about football fans’ experience and crowd management. With this intent, theywant a simulation consultant to look at how the football fan entry is currently being managed.Without compromising safety, managing resources is of prime importance to Ricoh, to provide a goodcustomer experience to football fans.
