ASSIGNMENT Aim & Objective This coursework is designed to demonstrate the broad understanding and knowledge of the module, assessing and evaluating the student’s strength and level of analysis; divided into four learning outcomes. The coursework should be submitted as one document in a report format in final submission. Assignment Scenario: The Pearson-set theme for Website Design and Development is; “Dynamic Website Design and Development for Luxury Automobiles Showroom” You are progressing well as a junior web designer for a leading automobile showroom agent. An opportunity has arisen for you to work for an automobile showroom outlet known as AutoLondon. The outlet was established in January 2021 with a view to reach out to customers in Greenwich, London, UK and its environment for the purpose of having a virtual showcase of luxury automobiles (add at least four images from different luxury automobiles with good contents). Due to this initiative, AutoLondon realises its urgent need to have an online presence to service potential customers in the comfort of their homes or location. The website should also allow customers to sign up for newsletters via email to enable them receive notifications of new automobile information/news in the future even when they are not on the website. They have two objectives: To promote their business by generating traffic through a website that allows potential customers to see different range of automobiles in the comfort of their homes / locations.To enhance customer service among prospective customers. This can be achieved by designing and creating enquiry form (must have label, text box, dropdown box, buttons etc, good size, layout) and ensure data validation method is applied. The client: AutoLondon will use the website to project their presence and the services they offer and as a contact tool with their potential customers. The website should be simple to use and must take account of customer experience in its design and development. You should create and apply your own cascading stylesheet for the website design optimisation. This can be either be of internal, external or in-line methods or a combination of the methods. Customers should be able to send enquiries about the virtual show/automobiles, ask questions relating to the company as at when needed. There should be at least two relevant videos about the automobile show to enhance user experience. A table (showing rows and columns) with the data as per your choice relating to the case study should be implemented. An example is a table showing showroom opening times if customers were to visit the location physically in the future. You will design and develop a front-end website of at least 3 pages (with proper website navigations) using suitable design tools and technologies such as Adobe brackets, Adobe Dreamweaver or sublime text-2, notepad, notepad++, HTML, CSS and JavaScript etc. You can use your own initiation and demonstrate some other website design and implementation skills (but should be related to the case study) e.g. using multimedia, using unordered, ordered list, HTML Plugin, HTML media, Canvas, map, symbol, charset, block, div, CSS box model, CSS advanced, responsive, jQuery, bootstrap etc. When using jQuery and Bootstrap themes, navigation, tables, forms, etc., you need to clearly state in your assignment, how you implemented them in the website development. Part 1: The website you will create for this assignment, as every other website, will be identified by a domain name for accessing the website via the World Wide Web and it will be hosted with a web hosting service provider. You are required to identify the purpose and types of Domain Name System (DNS) and also explain how domain names are organised and managed. Web hosting involves software and hardware technologies associated with hosting and managing websites. A number of these technologies are in use in real-world applications. You are required to explain the relationship between domain names, DNS services and communication protocols used to access a website. Also, include web server hardware, software and operating systems in your explanation with regards to designing, publishing and accessing a website. You should also evaluate the impact of different web development technologies and frameworks with regards to website design functionality and management. You are expected to review the influence of search engines on website performance and provide evidence-based support for improving a site’s index value and rank through search engine optimisation. Part 2: You are required to discuss the capabilities and relationships between front-end and back-end technologies, and explain how they are related to presentation layer, client-side and server- side programming to build a User Interface (UI) for effective User Experience (UX). You should discuss the difference between custom-built website and online website creation using built in system by hosting provider; possible advantages, limitations with regards to design flexibility, performance, functionality, User Experience (UX) and User Interface (UI). You would also evaluate various tools and techniques are available and being used to develop custom-built website. Finally, justify the tools and techniques chosen to realise a custom-built website. Part 3: You are required to research and create good content combined with good design principles to develop a multipage website based on the above scenario. Identify all the requirements for developing the website and create a design document for a branded, multipage website supported with medium fidelity wireframes and a full set of client and user requirements. Use your design document with appropriate principles, standards and guidelines to produce a branded, multipage website supported with realistic content. You should also compare and contrast the multipage website created to the design document. Then, critically evaluate the design and development process against your design document and analyse any technical challenges. Part 4: After developing the websites, you are required to create a suitable Test Plan identifying key performance area and use it to review the functionality and performance of your website. E.g. you could consider the following; Review how intuitive interfaces and actions, user-friendly designs, appropriate graphics, effective navigation and good quality content can help establish user trust and deliver an improved User Experience (UX).Consider the effects of good and bad search engine optimisation (SEO) and indexing on the performance of a website.W3C Validation (HTML and CSS) and how it influences website design and performance.Assess the impact of poorly optimised website graphics. You should evaluate the Quality Assurance (QA) process and review how it was implemented during your design and development stages. At the end you are expected to critically evaluate the results of your Test Plan and include a review of the overall success of your multipage website; use this evaluation to explain any areas of success and provide justified recommendations for areas that require improvement. Submission Initial submission of coursework to the tutors is compulsory in each unit of the course.The student must check their assignments on ICON VLE with plagiarism software Turnitin to make sure the similarity index for their assignment stays within the College approved level.
