Students will analyse business and technical requirements and evaluatealternative network design methods and techniques in order to plan, design and test a local or wide area network. Building on the Level 4 module ‘DataCommunications and Networking’, the network planning process in this module begins with the acquisition of external information, related to:• Forecasts of how the new network will operate;• Economic information concerning costs; and• Technical details of the network’s capabilities.This module will contribute directly to the following programme aims: To provide a systematic study of the theory, principles and application of a wide range of computing technologies and systems to include systemsanalysis and design, project management, programming, networking and network security, cloud computing and big data management andanalysis, web and mobile technologies, the Internet of Things, and Cyber Security. To equip graduates with analytical, computational thinking and critical thinking skills, together with the ability to apply theoretical understanding tosolve practical real world problems in a creative, innovative and economically viable manner. To equip students with subject-based knowledge and skills to allow them to enter into graduate employment in the fields of computing and informationtechnology.Module learning outcomes:On successful completion of this module you will be able to1. Students will be provided with lecture notes,hands out and practice exercises, which will maximize their understanding of the module through practical learning experience and will also introducecore development concepts and principles. Students will be expected to undertake a programme of directed and independent study, including practicalwork and related discussion in the workshops, to support, reinforce and extend the principles covered in the lectures. As well as providing traditionallecture materials there will be an emphasis on group interaction and in-class tasks and exercises to reinforce learning. There will be ongoing formativeassessment and feedback.AssessmentThere are two assessments for this module;Coursework (40%)Students will be required to work on an assignment-based coursework with multiple components, identifying a potential network planning exercisefor a realistic scenario. Maximum word limit: 2000 words. This report will be submitted in week 8. Formative feedback will be available duringworkshops sessions on the tasks completed. This will cover learning outcomes 3, 5, 6 and 7.Examination (60%)Two hour end of semester examination. Practice online tests will be set up to prepare students for the final examination and formative feedbackwill be given to students. This will cover learning outcomes 1, 2 and 4.You MUST make a reasonable attempt at your both assignment (s) (even resits) and ensure that you submit it/them on time and in thecorrect link.
