Use the following checklist to ensure your assignment report includes everything needed. Format ☐ Use a maximum of 16 sides of A4. This does not include your Front Cover Sheet, Contents Page or Appendix. ☐ Number your pages ☐ Use a reasonable sized font, for example, 11pt Arial or 12pt Times New Roman. ☐ Use Table Numbers and Figure Numbers. Contents Page ☐ Include a contents page showing headings and subheadings. Introduction ☐ Introduce the topic (The film industry, IMDb) ☐ State your research question. ☐ Reference any interesting facts or points Sample Method Treat this as a set of instructions for another person, take them through your sample selection step by step. ☐ How did you narrow down your sample (film type, country, year of release etc.)? ☐ Did you control your sample in some way? (e.g., only use films from one or two genres?) ☐ State your sample size. ☐ State the sample method you used (e.g., stratified, random, convenience etc.). ☐ Explain any problems you encountered when taking the sample, any decisions you had to take. ☐ Explain if there are any limitations in the data (estimated data, changing data, missing data). Initial Analysis Make sure have included the following. ☐ The summary statistics for your first variable (e.g., Amount Raised, IMDb rating) ☐ A graph(s) to show the first variable. ☐ The summary statistics for your other chosen variable (e.g., Original Goal, Number of Backers, Number of Reviews) ☐ Graph(s) to show your other chosen variable. ☐ Graphs / summary statistic for any comparisons you can make between groups e.g., between film types, countries etc. Interpret your statistics and graphs. ☐ Interpretations for your graphs and statistics noting any interesting points such as skewness and outliers. Regression and Correlation Make sure you have. ☐ A brief (a few lines of text) of introduction to this section of the analysis. ☐ A Scatterplot / Fitted Line Plot with interpretation for the plot (what patterns, clusters, outliers etc. are shown on the plot) ☐ A Correlation coefficient with interpretation, R-square value with interpretation. ☐ The regression equation with interpretation ☐ Answered the question: ‘If your chosen variable does not account for 100% of the variation in ‘Y’ discuss why this could be the case’. In other words, what other factors could affect the Y other than the one you have chosen. ☐ Tested to see if your equation gives accurate predictions for Y (e.g. through practical test or testing the residuals – See the Minitab Workshop Worksheet on Regression for instructions on how to do this). Further Analysis ☐ A brief (a few lines of text) of introduction to this section of the analysis, this should explain how this analysis fits in (e.g. looking for a trend over time or looking for a significant difference between groups). IF you are doing a hypothesis test you will need ☐ The Null and Alternative Hypotheses ☐ A calculation of a test statistic ☐ A statement of the significance level ☐ The final result with a conclusion to the test. IF you are doing a Time Series Analysis you will need ☐ A time series plot ☐ An interpretation of your time series plot (e.g. is there evidence of trend or any other patterns in the data. Conclusion Check that you have included. ☐ Key findings from your initial analysis ☐ Key findings from your further analysis ☐ An answer to your research question – how is your chosen Y variable affected by your chosen X variable? ☐ An answer to the question: will your regression equation give good predictions for the Y variable? ☐ An answer to the question: did your analysis follow your original plan or were there issues which caused you to move away from your planned analysis? Reference List ☐ This is an academic report, include some references to support any facts you include and to support any discussion points on ‘why’ a result may have occurred. ☐ Check that your references are in the Harvard Reference Format. Appendix: ☐ Include a table of your original data
