Recruiting and retaining a culturally competent workforce that reflects the community it serves improves patient outcomes, patient experience and can even save healthcare organisations money. This session will use a PhD study as a case study to explore what issues need to be considered when developing a diverse workforce. As we are off campus due to the Covid-19 closure for this session we will be working with you in online mode. In order to work well in this mode it is essential that you complete all of the following steps. Some activities you will be able to complete in your own time before and after a specified period of time but other tasks will require you to be online for a ‘live’ period so that you feel supported and feel part of a thriving learning community. Step 1 – Read the Session Learning Outcomes To understand some of the barriers and enablers for underrepresented people in a given healthcare workforceTo explore the methodology of how these barriers and enablers may be examinedTo discuss intersectionalism as an appropriate approach in health service research Step 2 – Engage in the learning materials that have been made available Resources and materials to review Hyperlink to pre-recorded presentation: https://beds.hosted.panopto.com/Panopto/Pages/Viewer.aspx?id=ddf978d8-2d58-4069-88fc-ab9900cd2a2e Hyperlink to video on men in nursing: See paper in session folder for further reading and related task Step 3 – Reflect on how the materials and session learning outcomes contribute to your assessment In the table below we have outlined how this session contributes to your assessment preparation.
