Module Learning Outcomes (from module syllabus)Demonstrate the foundational skills required to be a resilient and healthy independent learner. Use suitable technology to support and enhance their learning experience within the discipline area TASK DESCRIPTION Produce an e-portfolio that address the following tasks: 1. Produce a written summary of 300 words, with supporting visuals, on the topic of essential skills for study and employment. The summary should reference at least four information sources, including at least one text book and one credible article. The correct referencing standard should be applied throughout. Submit your work to the Turnitin link (labelled Task One – Similarity Check) on the Moodle page and check your similarity score. In the same document as your summary, include a reflection of 100 words on: Your similarity score and how you could improve it for next time. The mark out of 100% you would award yourself and why, using the assessment criteria as a guide. The resources covered in Unit One of this module will help you to complete this task. (18 marks) 2. Create a mind map that demonstrates how the main themes and concepts covered in Unit Two of the module are interconnected and how they contribute to preparing you to work in your chosen discipline. Your mind map should be no more than 250 words, with supporting imagery, and can be hand drawn or produced using MS Word, PowerPoint or an appropriate technology such as Mind Meister available at: www.mindmeister.com/ . The resources covered in Unit Two of this module will help you to complete this task. (18 marks) 3. Produce a video of between 2 and 3 minutes promoting the importance of ONE of the four elements of the Digital Competency Framework to students in Higher Education, which you were introduced to in the Unit ‘Becoming a Digital Learner’. Use one of the tools you explored in the Unit, or one you have your own experience of. You should include a summary of WHAT is covered by that element, WHY it is important and HOW people can develop their skills. Create a social (cyber) space (not limited to blog, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube) and upload/share your creation. Alternatively, you could use Microsoft Teams/ Moodle to upload/ share your work with a limited/ restricted user’s (Closed Community). Accept suggestions, critics, and comments to the work and provide suggestions, critics, and comments to others work. The resources covered in Unit Three of this module will help you to complete this task. (27 marks) 4. Create an A3 academic poster highlighting why the topics covered in Unit Four of the module are important for academic and career success in your chosen discipline. This task is linked to the team working activity you will undertake whilst completing the ‘Life is a Team Sport’ session as outlined here: Team Activity: In a team of up to 4 members you should work together to come up with ideas for an academic poster that highlights why the topics covered in the Unit ‘Becoming an effective Team Member’ are important for academic and career success. To do this you will need to choose some team members you would like to work with and set up a forum for you to meet, you could use MS Teams, or another platform you are familiar with. You should try and meet at least twice as a team in the coming week. You can also use other channels to aid communication, such as WhatsApp, ensuring you are regularly communicating with other team members. The output of this should be a document containing text, images and ideas for formatting your poster (this will then feed the assessment for the unit). Your poster should make reference to this activity and the team members you worked with. In this instance it is expected there will be some similarity in the work produced but please ensure there are also individual elements to the poster. A list of references should be included with the poster. The resources covered in Unit Four of this module will help you to complete this task. (27 marks) E-Portfolio Submission You should submit all parts of the portfolio in one document that includes a title and contents page along with a list of references for all elements. If it is not possible to incorporate the work into a document then links to the materials should be inserted. Participation and contribution This mark will be awarded based on your tutor’s assessment of your active participation in, and contributions to, the learning activities throughout the module. Tutors will award marks for completing specified tasks and for the output you produce and submit (e.g. completion of activities, messages posted in discussion threads, active participation in discussions). This mark relates to both participation and contribution, so simply completing all module study activities is not a guarantee that you will receive the full 10 marks. If your tutor does not feel you have participated in these activities, the 10 marks will be lost. (10 marks) GUIDANCE FOR Students IN THE COMPLETION OF TASKS NOTE: The guidance offered below is linked to the five generic assessment criteria overleaf. Engagement with Literature Skills Your work must be informed and supported by scholarly material that is relevant to and focused on the task(s) set. You should provide evidence that you have accessed an appropriate range of sources, which may be academic, governmental and industrial; these sources may include academic journal articles, textbooks, current news articles, organisational documents, and websites. You should consider the credibility of your sources; academic journals are normally highly credible sources while websites require careful consideration/selection and should be used sparingly. Any sources you use should be current and up-to-date, mostly published within the last five years or so, though seminal/important works in the field may be older. You must provide evidence of your research/own reading throughout your work, using a suitable referencing system, including in-text citations in the main body of your work and a reference list at the end of your work. Guidance specific to this assessment: Your portfolio should include reference to at least 10 such sources and the referencing standard for you course applied throughout. Knowledge and Understanding Skills At level 4, you should be able to demonstrate knowledge of the underlying concepts and principles associated with your area(s) of study. Knowledge relates to the facts, information and skills you have acquired through your learning. You demonstrate your understanding by interpreting the meaning of the facts and information (knowledge). This means that you need to select and include in your work the concepts, techniques, models, theories, etc. appropriate to the task(s) set. You should be able to explain the theories, concepts, etc. to show your understanding. Your mark/grade will also depend upon the extent to which you demonstrate your knowledge and understanding. Guidance specific to this assessment: You should refer to learning from the relevant units in the module. Your response to the tasks should demonstrate knowledge of relevant concepts, theories and models, and demonstrate the skills you have developed over the course of the module such as paraphrasing, synthesis, referencing and digital skills. Cognitive and Intellectual Skills You should be able to present, evaluate and interpret qualitative and quantitative data, in order to develop lines of argument and make sound judgements in accordance with basic theories and concepts of your subject(s) of study. You should be able to evaluate the appropriateness of different approaches to solving problems related to your area(s) of study and/or work. Your work must contain evidence of logical, analytical thinking. For example, to examine and break information down into parts, make inferences, compile, compare and contrast information. This means not just describing what! But also justifying: Why? How? When? Who? Where? At what cost? You should provide justification for your arguments and judgements using evidence that you have reflected upon the ideas of others within the subject area and that you are able to make sound judgements and arguments using data and concepts. Where relevant, alternative solutions and recommendations may be proposed. Guidance specific to this assessment: Your responses to the tasks should be underpinned with reference appropriate evidence. Practical Skills At level 4, you should be able to apply the basic underlying concepts and principles to evaluate and interpret these within the context of your area of study. You should be able to demonstrate how the subject-related concepts and ideas relate to real world situations and/or a particular context. How do they work in practice? You will deploy models, methods, techniques, and/or theories, in that context, to assess current situations, perhaps to formulate plans or solutions to solve problems, or to create artefacts. This is likely to involve, for instance, the use of real world artefacts, examples and cases, the application of a model within an organisation and/or benchmarking one theory or organisation against others based on stated criteria. Guidance specific to this assessment: You should demonstrate you are able to apply the knowledge gained in the course of the module to the assessment task. Transferable Skills for Life and Professional Practice Your work must provide evidence of the qualities and transferable skills necessary for employment requiring the exercise of some personal responsibility. This includes demonstrating: that you can communicate the results of your study/work accurately and reliably, and with structured and coherent arguments; that you can initiate and complete tasks and procedures, whether individually and/or collaboratively; fluency of expression; clarity and effectiveness in presentation and organisation. Work should be coherent and well-structured in presentation and organisation. Guidance specific to this assessment: E-portfolio Written in UK English in an appropriate business/academic style using an appropriate medium for the task. Please refer to additional Moodle resources for guidance on the production of mind maps and posters.Focus only on the tasks set in the assignment.Length: 2000 words (or equivalent) +/- 10% (5 marks will be deducted from the overall mark where the word count is exceeded).Use Grammarly to check spelling and grammar before submission.
