The concept of regions is one we use daily. We speak about places such as sub-Saharan Africa, Western Europe, or Asia. Regions are units by which place is delineated. The concept of the ‘region’ is a fundamental unit of geographic analysis; it refers to an area with some defined uniformity. Geographers organize the great diversity of the planet into manageable chunks based on selected features that are common in an area and distinguish it from other regions. Any place can be assigned to a region that is defined by physical properties, cultural or political properties, or functional characteristics. In many cases, a region is defined by a combination of several of these features.
For this assignment, you will determine the significant differences and similarities between the regions of 1) North America and 2) Middle and South America.
