Five government ethics cases are included in the attached. They provide an opportunity to consider how public administrators can act responsibly in an ethical context and as outlined by Svara in Chapter 7. This week, the class will be divided into small to medium-sized groups for each group to select and discuss one of these cases, paying attention to the questions presented for each. Some cases have many questions and some few. Each group is required to respond to three questions and present their responses to the whole class.
After class discussion, you can select one of the cases for the Case Study 4 assignment. It would make sense to select the one reviewed in the group discussion. In this assignment consider the role and duty of the public administrators featured in the case. Reflect on Chapter 7 for guidelines regarding responsible behavior of public administrators. Also consider the values of public administrators, which influence their behavior. Also, see pages 18 and 20 where Svara categorizes and discusses ethical behaviors.
Your completed assignment should be about 1 page, double–spaced, and presented in succinct paragraphs, one for each question. Be sure to use the title of the selected case as the heading for your assignment and number each paragraph so that it is clear which question you are responding to.
