an excuse for non-submission of an Assessment Activity.’ Penalties will occur
for lateness or inability to share with required parties or upload required
resources in Google Suite on time.
SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS
● This must be submitted in a folder or bound. All samples must be neatly mounted within the submission.
● You must label your work clearly on the front page with your student number only.
● Please submit to the Visual Arts and Design staff room by 8:35am on the due date.

ASSESSMENT ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION
A textile item you have designed is going to be reproduced for the mass market. As part of the process you need to
provide the following information for the manufacturer:
1. Product Design Details (25 marks)
This section requires the development of detailed manufacturing specifications so that they may be
accurately put into commercial production. This should include:
– a description of the item (10 marks)
– production drawings including garments and pattern pieces (10 marks)
– technical production plans with samples included (5 marks)
2. Experimental Procedures (15 marks)
* There are three main areas you will need to consider to achieve the desired end result of your textile item;
manufacturing techniques, material selection and equipment. In order to determine the best processes,
you will need to conduct investigation and experimentation into each of these areas.
Outline ONE manufacturing technique, ONE material selection and ONE piece of equipment used in your
design. Justify the use of this material, equipment and manufacturing technique on the basis of
comprehensive investigations, use samples to support your evaluation.
* Remember: these are experiments, therefore you need to compare to other suitable fabrics, techniques
and construction methods
3. Analysis of Fabric, Yarn and Fibre Properties (10 marks)
Describe the main fabric of your chosen textile item and critically evaluate the properties and performance
of the fabric, yarn and fibres used in relation to the end use. This can be done in table format.
Your report needs to use a variety of communication methods e.g. (written, graphical, samples, tables and
diagrams) and should not exceed 12 x A4 (6 x A3 pages).
ASSESSMENT ACTIVITY RUBRIC
You will be assessed on your ability to:
● Produce clear and accurate manufacturing specifications for commercial production
● Determine the best use of manufacturing techniques, material selection and equipment through extensive
investigation.
● Analyse and critically evaluate properties and performance of fibre, yarn and fabric through justification of
end use.

Marking Criteria: Product Design Details MARK
● Produces an accurate and detailed description of item.
● Produces professional and accurate production drawings that clearly show all required details including
measurements, fabrics and techniques used.
● Produces a detailed costing sheet, which clearly lists all materials and equipment used throughout the
production of the textile item. Samples provided for all items.
21 – 25
● Produces a somewhat detailed description of item.
● Produces reasonably accurate production drawings that clearly show most required details including
measurements, fabrics and techniques used.
● Produces a costing sheet that clearly lists materials and equipment used throughout the production of
the textile item. At least one sample or item missing.
16 – 20
● Produces a description of item, with some information not included.
● Produces somewhat accurate production drawings that shows some details, with more information
needed.
● Produces a costing sheet that lists most materials and equipment used throughout the production of
the textile item. Samples may be provided.
11 – 15
● Produces a brief or incomplete description of item.
● Produces basic production drawings with little detail provided.
● Produces a basic costing sheet listing some materials with little evidence of samples.
6 – 10
● Produces a basic description of item
● Produces satisfactory production drawings with no evidence of detail.
● Produces a satisfactory costing sheet showing limited materials used.
